Preaching at Calvary

Pastor Shane Skelton preaches each service powerful messages from God's Word to encourage, equip, and exhort each member to a closer relationship with God!  We make no apology for preaching The Book, The Blood, and The Blessed Hope of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ!

Our Music Ministry

The music ministry is a vital part of Calvary. Conservative, vibrant, and worshipful music by the choir and orchestra is presented each week to help prepare hearts for the preaching.

Fellowship Ministry

Our Goal at Calvary Baptist is to make each visitor feel welcome and comfortable from the moment you first drive in our parking lot until you leave our services!

A Rich Heritage

Calvary Baptist Church is an independent, fundamental, family friendly church celebrating over 60 years of proclaiming Jesus Christ in the Lakeland area. We are a church that offers a variety of classes and activities for all ages. The Word of God is preached each Sunday and Wednesday to build up and strengthen the believers and bring lost people to a realization of their need for Jesus Christ. If you are looking for a church you can call home and a place to worship and serve the Lord, this is it.  We are located approximately one mile south of I-4 off of Hwy 98N, at 1945 N. Our Ministries a place for you to serve

A Note From Our Pastor

We offer a wide range of ministries at Calvary, beginning with a nursery for infants to two year olds. You will also find a fun atmosphere for your preschool age children, with lots of songs, stories and activities to teach your little ones about the Lord, on their level of learning. Our Children's Ministry caters to your school age child teaching exciting Bible Stories and Character Lessons for their age level. (AWANA is also available on Wed evenings.) The Special Needs Ministry, "Pathfinders" is available on Sunday mornings for all ages. We offer a bus/van ministry for a large area of Lakeland (call the church for details about your area.) There are special classes designed for the Teen Student Ministry held in "The Garage."  On Sunday morning and Wednesday evenings we offer Bible Studies focused on the needs of "Singles." Our Senior Adult Ministry, "The Jolly Seniors" is very active and important part of the ministry here at Calvary. Each individual is important and has individual needs; through these different areas, we try to meet some of those needs.  Please take time to look at our many different ministries by "clicking" on the different tabs on top.

Our Sunday School Ministries

Each Sunday morning at 9:45 a.m. there are several different Bible Study classes offered. There are a variety of subjects covered - Family, Bible Doctrines, Discipleship, Soul Winning, New Converts, etc. Wednesday evenings at 7:00 p.m. there is a weekly Bible Study in the sanctuary with the Pastor.

Wednesday Children's Program

One of our core values here at Calvary is that we strive to raise children up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. The children's program provides solid Bible teaching accompanied by caring leaders. Awana takes place on Wednesday nights during the school year. This program helps churches and parents worldwide raise children and youth to know, love, and serve Christ. During the summer there is a children's musical and Vacation Bible School. The children's musical gives children an opportunity to be exposed to quality music and to learn to use their gifts for the Lord, while VBS is a strong dose of the word of God and lots of fun! We hope that you will allow your children be a part of Calvary's ministry.

  • Childrens Music Program: 7:00pm to 8:00pm, 3 years to grade 6, on Wednesdays May 25, 2011 to August 31, 2011
  • AWANA: 6:45pm to 8:15pm, 3 years to grade 6, on Wednesdays Sept. 7, 2011 to May 16, 2012

The Garage: Teen Ministry

Welcome to the GARAGE Student Ministries. Our ultimate goal is to build students for God's Kingdom. We offer students a place to get in tune with God's Word and have their lives overhauled by Jesus Christ. We meet @ 9:45 a.m. on Sundays for Bible Study and on most Saturday evenings (check calendar for date and times.) Come and experience some good times in the GARAGE.

The youth of Calvary Baptist Church will be going to Mallow, County Cork, Ireland for a Missions Trip in July of 2012! Fundraisers are underway and support is being raised. Single? This Ministry is just for YOU!

Singles Ministry, College & Career Class, at Calvary Baptist Church strives to bring young adults into a closer relationship with Christ through the transitional years between beginning college and starting the next phase of their life. This class is commonly referred to as the “Single Focus” ministry; as we get so busy in our everyday lives, we need to remember to keep our focus solely upon God and apply His Word to our daily lives. Whether the next step is finding a spouse, choosing a major, interviewing for a job, or all of the above, we teach that trusting in God through obedience is far better than trying in our own strength.

Jolly Seniors: A Senior Citizen Ministry

Jolly Seniors is our ministry to persons 50 and older. We meet on Thursdays throughout the year. The winter session includes weekly meetings from October through March. The summer session is twice a month from April through September. This ministry includes sweet times of fellowship, great meals and exciting day trips. Every session includes a time of devotions and prayer. The church has provided a "new" 28 passenger mini bus that we take on our day trips. When we meet at the church, we usually have a meal that is prepared by Jeannie Chestnut, and Karen Kennedy. The church provides the entree and the people bring covered dishes and desserts. There are several highlights to the Jolly Seniors meeting each year. The visit to or from the Hope Children’s home of Tampa at Christmas ranks right up at the top of the list. Other highlights are our annual cooking contest, Fred Moore’s dramatic presentations, Larry and Donna Johnson’s concert, and our meetings with the Missionaries. This past year we have had several exciting day trips that include the Big Cat Rescue visit in Tampa, Soloman’s Castle in Ona, The Blue Springs State Park river boat trip, the DeSoto National Memorial in Bradenton and our visit to the Pelican Man Bird Sanctuary in Sarasota. We have several favorite restaurants in Central Florida. These include the Dixie Crossroads in Titusville, Ming Court in Orlando, Yoders in Sarasota, and Sweet Tomato’s in Brandon.

Caring For The Handicap

The Pathfinder’s Ministry is a special class for special people. A place where the physically and mentally challenged can come and learn about God and His ways, meet new friends, and work on fun projects. Sunday morning during Sunday School and church time the Pathfinders meet for Bible stories, teaching, singing, snacks, fun, and fellowship! We would love to have you come visit!

“For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?” – Romans 10:13-14

Family Matters: a young couples ministry

At Calvary Baptist Church we believe God has created marriage as the cornerstone of the family and that the family is the institution where discipleship begins. As a result, our Family Matters Class seeks to equip young couples to discover God’s blueprint for marriage as revealed in His Word. Believing also that fellowship is an integral part of the learning process we provide a time for fellowship and refreshments before class begins at 9:45 AM each Sunday. In class we seek to cover topics such as parenting, marriage relationship roles, personal sanctification, edification and outreach. Our goal is to equip each class member with the spiritual foundation to grow deeper in their walk with the Lord, to learn how His Word applies to their daily lives and to be all that God has called them to be, as Christians, as spouses and as parents. Whether you are newly married or been married for a while, we would love to have you get involved in our class. We would count it a privilege to minister to you.

A Heart For Children: Bus Ministry

Calvary places a high emphasis on brining in the lost so that they might come to know Christ. Each Saturday there is bus visitation. Sunday mornings the busses pick up those needing transportation to the AM service.

But Jesus said, Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven.
Matthew 19:14

Joyful Hearts: Mission, Organization & Planned Meetings

It is the mission of the Calvary Baptist Church Joyful Hearts to visit and encourage:

  • The recently widowed
  • All Calvary Baptist Shut ins at least (monthly)
  • The senior members of our church when hospitalized

The Joyful Hearts are widows that are dedicated to encouraging other widows through their grief.  They also are committed to visiting the church senior citizens that are incapacitated by old age or othe medical circumstances.  This includes visits to the hospital and nursing facilities.

A Vibrant, God-Honoring Music Program

The music ministry is a vital part of Calvary. Conservative, vibrant, and worshipful music by the choir and orchestra is presented each week to help prepare hearts for the preaching. "LORD, O ye righteous: for praise is comely for the upright. Praise the LORD with harp: sing unto him with the psaltery and an instrument of ten strings. Sing unto him a new song; play skilfully with a loud noise." Psalm 33:1-3

Infant Care

Our bright and cheery Noah's Ark Nursery is staffed and available for all regular services. You can feel comfortable leaving your "little ones" while you enjoy the service.

CBCA: A Homeschooling Ministry

Calvary Baptist Church Academy was founded in 1996 as a non-traditional, non-public school under the Florida Statutes. We offer full record keeping services to home educating families, as well as our one-of-a-kind “Friday School,” where our students meet each Friday of the school year for classes such as Band, Art, Drama, and Chorus. Our students enter state and national Bible, academic, and fine arts competitions through the American Association of Christian Schools. Our program also includes a high school athletics program, and we are members of the Florida Christian Conference. Our students have the opportunity to play other schools in our conference in Junior Varsity and Varsity Soccer, Volleyball, Basketball, Golf, and Softball. We uphold Christian standards and encourage parental involvement and supervision of all activities.

Pastor's Blog - 10/8/11

The most important document ever written is the Ten Commandments. The influence of the Ten Commandments upon nations and societies could never be measured; indeed the importance of the Ten Commandments can never be overstressed. As man’s morality continues to degrade and decline, man has changed his laws to fit the times. But God’s law never changes. That’s why God wrote them in stone because they don’t bend and you cannot stretch them. You either keep them or brake them. Truth is not a floating island that changes with the cultures, trends and fads but rather it is a benchmark or a landmark that is unchanging.
